Mr. Jackson is a 50 year old African-American man. He has had hypertension for 7 years and it has never been well controlled. He takes losartan and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ). He believes his high blood pressure is caused mainly by stress. He takes medications for a couple of days, and then takes a break (maybe 3 times a week). He uses other strategies to reduce his BP such as taking garlic pills, cutting down on salt, and taking it easy. He also complains that the medication is too expensive (he already has too many bills)
