Ms. Bass is a 48 year old white woman with hypertension and asthma. Medications include hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), triamcinolone inhaler, and albuterol inhaler as needed. She has stopped taking her medication (HCTZ) because of increased urination. She does not think that her high blood pressure is high enough to warrant daily medications. Ms. Bass has heard that high blood pressure is a “silent killer” but doesn’t really know exactly what that means as she can usually tell when blood pressure is high – she just doesn’t feel good.
